Maritime Nursing Home at Belvedere House
Welcome to our beautiful maritime nursing home in Banstead, Belvedere House, where we give priority to former seafarers from the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, fishing fleets, and related maritime services.
While open to veterans and the local community, our recently modernised home caters almost exclusively to retired seafarers, their widows and dependents, offering the highest standards in care and attention.
We offer something very few other care homes can: community and camaraderie that honours and embraces lives spent at sea. That’s in everything from our décor to the celebration of our seafaring heritage in the activities and events we encourage our residents to attend.
We also understand that ex-seafarers can have specific health needs or disabilities related to their time at sea – so we cater for that with personalised care and attention.
If you’re interested in knowing more about our care home for ex-Navy and other seafarers, we’d love to show you around.

Belvedere House: anchored in maritime tradition
It can be hard to put into words what it’s like to have lived a life at sea. At Belvedere House, you won’t have to.
That’s because you’ll be part of a community of people who have shared the same experiences, who can look back in pride at all they’ve achieved, while also having plenty more to look forward to.
There aren’t many care homes for ex-Navy and other seafarers in the UK, so what we offer is special. We maintain a maritime outlook, from the way we’ve designed the décor of the house to the activities we arrange for our residents. And we cater for the fact that residents might have specific health conditions resulting from a life at sea, such as exposure to harsh weather, accidents, or the physical demands of seafaring work.
It’s no less than you would expect from a home run by Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society – the charity that’s been looking after aged, infirm, or disabled seafarers (as well as their widows and dependants) since 1865.
