Business Manager

Karen joined The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society in 2012 as Business Manager. Prior to this she worked in the service industries for 30 years, moving into the not-for-profit sector in 2010.

Quality of service is key at the Society and Karen is integral to the team that delivers it.

Karen is responsible for ensuring that all non-clinical functions within Belvedere House run smoothly and efficiently; this covers areas such as catering, housekeeping and laundry, estates and administration.

There is no ‘typical’ day in Karen’s job and having come from a commercial operational background this is what she thrives on; there is always something different going on. This could see her discussing building works first thing, then meeting with the kitchen team to discuss new menus, followed by a health and safety committee meeting in the afternoon and at the end of the day ensuring payroll has run smoothly for the month.
