Respite Care in Surrey at Belvedere House

Our Belvedere House care home might be best known for offering long-term residential care, but we also provide comprehensive respite care for elderly or disabled ex-seafarers and their families. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to look after people aged 65 or over. We ensure residents on short stay breaks feel just as welcome and cared for during their stay as those living with us longer-term.

Recently modernised, Belvedere House is a state-of-the-art facility with 68 bright bedrooms – each with an ensuite wet room. There is also a specialised dementia unit on site, and the home is set within 14 acres of picturesque grounds.

Operated by The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society, our beautiful Banstead care home is the perfect facility for respite care in Surrey, providing caregivers the chance to have a break, go on holiday, or simply relax and unwind, knowing your loved ones are in safe hands.

Respite care for dementia patients

As well as more general care, our modern facility has been designed to cater to those needing dedicated dementia support.

The dedicated dementia care unit, within our respite care home, is centred around a single-storey annexe,. Our team of staff are trained in specialist dementia care and are always on hand to offer assistance to our residents.

We know that many ex-seafarers suffer from dementia, and so our facility has been designed to give them the best possible experience. As an example, it’s fitted with dementia-friendly furnishings, as well as wide corridors – following expert guidance from the University of Strathclyde.

It also features a calm, safe and comfortable sheltered internal courtyard, offering residents the ideal outdoor space.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is respite care?

Respite care is a type of short-term care service, providing temporary relief for those caring for elderly, disabled or chronically ill individuals at home. It allows the primary carer to have a break, while ensuring that loved ones still receive professional care and support.

What are the benefits of respite care?

Respite care offers benefits for carers and temporary residents. Carers get to rest, rejuvenate and concentrate on other aspects of life without having to worry about their loved one’s care, helping them avoid burnout. And for those being cared for, it offers a change of environment and the chance to socialise, as well as access to specialised care where needed.

Is respite care the same as hospice care?

No. Hospice care, or palliative care, is for those with terminal illnesses, who are nearing the end of their life. This specialised care focuses on providing comfort, pain management, and emotional support to the patient and their family during the final stages of life. While it is not the same as respite care, we do support palliative care at Belvedere House.

Is there a minimum stay for respite care residents?

Yes, new respite care residents must agree to a minimum stay of seven days.

How much does respite care cost at Belvedere House?

Our fees range from £230 to £270 per day, while we also charge an administrative fee of £125 for a resident’s initial stay. We waive this admin fee for future stays.
