Belvedere House Dementia Care Home in Surrey
At Belvedere House, we’ve long recognised the need for residents living with dementia to have specialised care. Many ex-seafarers have dementia, and it was this that spurred us to open our dedicated dementia care home in Surrey, located on our Weston Acres site.
Centred around a single-storey annexe, the facility offers 37 nursing bedrooms with ensuite wet room facilities. Our team of dedicated staff are specialists in dementia care, while the rest of our staff, including nursing, catering, and cleaning teams, receive specialised dementia training as well.
Our specific efforts to support ex-seafarers, who often suffer with this condition, makes us unique for dementia care in Surrey.
If you have a loved one living with dementia, you might like to arrange a visit to our Banstead care home to see what we can offer.

Dementia care at Belvedere House
We aim to give residents with dementia the best possible care and attention at our dementia care home in Surrey. We offer 37 nursing bedrooms for people living with dementia that all have ensuite wet rooms
We’ve been catering for residents with dementia since 2011, when we opened the UK’s first specialist dementia centre for seafarers at Belvedere House, after identifying that 40% of our residents had some form of dementia.
As such, the single-storey annexe has been specially designed to cater for these residents, with dementia-friendly furnishings, based on guidance from experts at the University of Strathclyde.
The unit also features wide corridors and areas such as our sheltered internal courtyard, offering a safe, calm and comfortable outdoor space for our residents to enjoy.
At our dementia care unit, we’ve been able to witness the positive impact of early dementia diagnosis and therapies, using techniques like memory boxes, music sessions, and one-to-one support. And we’ve also introduced coloured plates, as well as other measures, to help our residents living with dementia. For residents who require a textured modified diet, our catering team have received training to enable them to provide that.
Our staff are second to none in supporting residents. And to make sure everyone is aware of the kind of care needed, the majority of our teams – including nursing, catering, and cleaning teams – have received specialised dementia training.
We also recognise the challenges friends and relatives face, so we facilitate a relaxed, regular coffee morning to bring together carers and offer support.
