The Royal Alfred Wins Laing Buisson Award

The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society has won Residential Care Home Provider of the Year – Small Organisation at the prestigious Laing Buisson Awards. The award recognises the top quality care facilities that the independent charity provides in its Surrey nursing care home for former seafarers and their dependents.

At the awards ceremony in London on 15 November, senior Royal Alfred staff were handed their trophy after fighting off stiff competition in a tough category which recognises the hard work of smaller, independent care providers. This win distinguishes the Society’s exceptional commitment and enthusiasm for meeting the needs of its over 60 residents, including those with dementia who are cared for in the dedicated dementia wing.

The category further recognises care providers who go above and beyond to provide innovative care solutions with a commitment to engaging with service users through individualised care plans. As a home away from sea the Society’s Belvedere House care home is a shining example of a place where the challenges of caring for the elderly and infirm can be rewarding and fulfilling.

The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society Chief Executive, Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt, said: “I’m so proud of the entire team’s achievements which have culminated in this award win. It really is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone when it comes to caring for our former seafaring residents. We work tirelessly to create a homely atmosphere for those who come to stay at Belvedere House. It is without a doubt that seeing the joy of our residents motivates us to continue providing the top quality care we have become synonymous with”

The Awards, run by Laing Buisson – a leading market intelligence provider for health and social care, celebrate industry excellence across the public, private and third sector care provisions. Bringing together the best of the social care scene across the UK these awards are a highlight of the awards season with over 40 finalists across 9 categories.

This is the first of a number of award entries for Royal Alfred in an already successful year for the charity. In June Virginia McKenna OBE visited Belvedere House to meet staff and residents followed long service awards for a number of staff, including Anne who has over thirty years of experience in social care. The charity is no stranger to accolades as previous winners of the Surrey Care Awards and the Toast of Surrey Awards however this Laing Buisson win sees the charity’s achievements recognised on a national level.
